Джордж Роберт Грей (8 июля 1808 – 6 мая 1872) был английским зоологом и автором, а также руководителем орнитологического отдела Британского музея, ныне Музея естественной истории, в Лондоне на протяжении сорока одного года. Он был младшим братом зоолога Джона Эдварда Грея и сыном ботаника Сэмюэля Фредерика Грея. Биография
Родился в Литтл-Челси, Лондон, в семье Сэмюэля Фредерика Грея, натуралиста и фармаколога, и его жены Элизабет (урождённой Форфейт). Он получил образование в школе Мерчант Тейлор. Грей начал службу в Британском музее в 1831 году в качестве помощника хранителя зоологического отдела. Он начал с каталогизации насекомых, опубликовал «Энтомологию Австралии» (1833) и написал энтомологический раздел английского издания «Царства животных» Жоржа Кювье. Грей описал множество видов чешуекрылых. В 1833 году он стал одним из основателей Королевского энтомологического общества Лондона.
