STS-54
Еще до старта в свою первую миссию Рунко был назначен специалистом миссии (MS1) на свой второй полет, STS 54, который должен был состояться на космическом шаттле ENDEAVOUR (OV 105). STS-77
В своей последней миссии он служил в качестве специалиста миссии (MS 3) в экипаже STS 77 на борту космического шаттла ENDEAVOUR (OV 105). Запущенный со стартовой площадки 39B KSC 19 мая 1996 года, STS 77 доставил на орбиту ряд экспериментов по разработке технологий и комплекс научных экспериментов в условиях микрогравитации. Он использовал эти ресурсы и свой опыт в фотографии, чтобы снять видео STU, пока Endeavour преследовал и облетал его в течение нескольких дней. Покинув офис астронавтов, Рунко стал ведущим специалистом JSC по оптике иллюминаторов космических аппаратов и их использованию, стремясь к установке иллюминаторов высокого оптического качества на МКС и всех будущих космических аппаратах. В связи с этим он участвовал в проектировании научного иллюминатора "Надир" и иллюминаторов "Купол" американского лабораторного модуля "Destiny" МКС. Он также был ключевым разработчиком WORF, установленного над научным иллюминатором модуля "Destiny", и соруководителем проекта сельскохозяйственной камеры МКС Университета Северной Дакоты (ISS AgCam/ISSAC), которая функционировала с использованием WORF.
