Введение
Uniscribe — это набор служб Microsoft Windows для отрисовки текста в кодировке Unicode, поддерживающий сложную компоновку текста. Он реализован в динамической библиотеке связи. Uniscribe был выпущен вместе с Windows 2000 и Internet Explorer 5.0. Кроме того, платформа Windows CE поддерживает Uniscribe, начиная с версии 5.0. "USP" — это аббревиатура от Unicode Scripts Processor (Процессор сценариев Unicode). Его функции включают:
arranging input text from the input sequence to visual sequence;
substituting glyphs according to context (e. g., different forms of Arabic characters);
ordering displayed text based on text flow direction, such as left to right or right to left, horizontal or vertical. Although Uniscribe continues to be maintained as of 2021, its intended replacement DirectWrite, which has more features, was introduced with Windows 7.

USP10.DLL Версии
Ниже перечислены некоторые распространенные версии usp10.dll, а также способы их распространения. Новые функции добавляются только на основе части "major.minor" номера версии, третья часть полного номера версии используется для идентификации целевых систем, для которых DLL был портирован Microsoft, а последняя часть – номер сборки для каждой версии целевой системы (который может меняться при регулярных обновлениях системы/программного обеспечения). Некоторые исправления предоставляют обновления только для определенных приложений (в частности, в каталоге установки Office) и не подходят для использования в системном каталоге Windows (версия DLL в котором не должна обновляться и часто защищена системой):

Скрипты со сложным набором текста предъявляют контекстные и нелинейные требования к корректному отображению типографики. Эти требования включают в себя: лигатуры, когда два последовательных символа объединяются в одну форму (латинский, деванагари); переупорядочивание, когда некоторые символы записываются перед буквой, следующей за ними в произношении (бенгальский, сингальский и другие индийские письменности); и контекстное формирование, когда форма некоторых букв изменяется в зависимости от их положения в начале, середине или конце слова (арабский, монгольский). Uniscribe использует несколько специализированных движков формирования для обработки типографики в поддерживаемых сложных скриптах; они реализованы в дополнение к общему движку для простых скриптов (таких как латинский или кириллический). В настоящее время используются движки для индийских языков (бенгальский, деванагари, гуджарати, гурмухи, каннада и т. д.), арабский, хангуль, иврит, кхмерский, мьянманский и тайский/лаосский варианты. Сложность стандарта Unicode и неоднозначность спецификации OpenType часто приводят к неполной или ошибочной реализации сложного макета текста. Специализированные движки формирования скриптов работают в каждом конкретном случае и не всегда последовательно обрабатывают общие функции шрифтов OpenType, что затрудняет поддержку новых скриптов для программистов ОС и разработчиков шрифтов. Ошибки в реализации очень сложно или невозможно исправить на более позднем этапе без нарушения обратной совместимости с существующими документами и шрифтами, что часто требует новых функций макета OpenType и переработки существующих шрифтов и движков рендеринга типографики. В Windows 10 была проведена масштабная работа по рефакторингу Uniscribe для реализации обобщенной модели формирования – Universal Shaping Engine (USE). Этот движок напрямую основан на свойствах глифов, определенных в стандарте Unicode, в надежде, что любой сложный скрипт с подходящим шрифтом будет поддерживаться без затрат времени и усилий, необходимых для создания специализированного движка формирования. USE базируется на обобщенной "универсальной кластерной модели", разработанной для индийских скриптов, которая моделирует надмножество систем письма. Движок классифицирует каждый символ сложного скрипта на несколько категорий, базовые классы и подклассы. Например, предварительная классификация для индийских языков включает общие, слоговые и позиционные категории, далее разделенные на базовые (число, согласный, тональный символ, зависимая гласная и т. д.), базовую гласную (независимая гласная), число (число соединения брахми), финальные, медиальные и модифицирующие согласные, медиальные согласные, а также верхние, нижние, левые и правые согласные и гласные. Строки символов Unicode преобразуются в коллекции классов USE с использованием четко определенных правил, что делает композицию глифов стандартной процедурой и позволяет осуществлять взаимодействие между символами, невозможное с текущими языковыми функциями, определенными в спецификациях OpenType. Universal Shaping Engine был представлен на OpenType Developer Meeting в 2014 году; совместимый подход также был реализован в текстовом формирователе HarfBuzz с открытым исходным кодом. По состоянию на 2020 год USE в Windows 10 обрабатывает в общей сложности 70 сложных скриптов: адлам, ахом, балийский, батак, бхайксуки, брахми, бугинский, бухид, чакма, чам, хорасмийский, Дивес Акуру, Дуплоян, египетские иероглифы, элимайский, гранта, гунджала гонди, ханифи рохингя, хануну, яванский, кайти, каях ли, хароштхи, киданьское малое письмо, ходжки, худавади, лепча, лимбу, махаджани, макасар, мандаик, манихейский, марчен, масарам гонди, медефаидрин, меитей майек, миао, моди, монгольский, мултани, надиннагари, нева, н’ко, ньякенг пуачуе хмонг, пахавх хмонг, фагс-па, псалтерий пахлави, реджанг, саураштра, шарада, сиддхам, сингальский, согдийский, древний согдийский, сойомбо, сунданский, сильоти нагри, тагалог, тагбанва, тай ле, тай там (ограниченная поддержка), тай вьет, такри, тибетский, тифинагх, тирхута, ванчо, езиди и занабазарский квадрат.
Версии
Хотя Uniscribe доступна с Windows 2000, новые версии Uniscribe добавляли в систему больше возможностей, в частности, поддержку других систем письменности. Более раннее обновление обеспечивало отображение арабского и ивритa, а затем тайского и вьетнамского языков. Начиная с Windows XP, поддерживаются и другие системы письменности Южной Азии и ассирийское письмо.
