Климат
Климат типично засушливый континентальный, характеризующийся резкими перепадами температур между зимой и летом.
Экономика
Экономика базируется на хлопке и зерновых культурах, с высокой зависимостью от орошения и животноводства. Среди второстепенных культур – кормовые травы, овощи, дыни, тыквы, картофель, кукуруза, разнообразные фрукты и виноград. Промышленность представлена производством строительных материалов, оборудования для орошения и первичной переработкой хлопка. В Сырдарье расположена одна из крупнейших гидроэлектростанций Узбекистана, вырабатывающая треть электроэнергии страны.
