История
Первоначальное название Кярсямяки было Кярсямя, а слово "мяки" (холм) было добавлено к нему позднее. Подобное изменение произошло и с другими названиями населённых пунктов: Пиексямяки, Элимяки и Лянгельмяки изначально назывались Пиексямя, Элимя и Лянгельмя. Впервые поселение упоминается в 1556 году как Kärsemby. Оно входило в состав прихода Пюхейоки, получило собственную церковь в 1764 году и стало самостоятельным приходом и муниципалитетом в 1856 году.
Демография
В конце 2018 года в Кярсямяки проживало 2611 человек, из которых 1188 жили в городской местности, 1407 – в малонаселенных районах, а место жительства 16 человек было неизвестно. Степень агломерации в Кярсямяки составляет 45,8%. В муниципалитете есть только один населенный пункт городского типа – церковная деревня Кярсямяки.
Еда
В 1980-х годах традиционными блюдами прихода Керсамаки были эльсупа, сваренная из риса, изюма и лейпяхеюсто (хлебного сыра), запеканка из картофеля и свинины под названием лякслоота и хлеб риска.
