Bussy sur Moudon is first mentioned in the 12th Century as Buxi. Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 1.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 4.5%. Out of the forested land, 20.4% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.9% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 56.3% is used for growing crops and 12.9% is pastures. The municipality is located in the western portion of the upper Broye valley.

Bussy sur Moudon has a population of as of 2008, 7.4% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years (1999–2009 ) the population has changed at a rate of 1.1%. It has changed at a rate of 2.2% due to migration and at a rate of 0% due to births and deaths. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks French (174 or 93.5%), with German being second most common (4 or 2.2%) and Portuguese being third (3 or 1.6%). There is 1 person who speaks Italian. as of 2000, there were 81 people who were single and never married in the municipality.
